Schedule at a glance

The event itself runs 30 July - 3 August inclusive, attendees must arrive on the 30 July and should depart no earlier than the 3 August. 

  • 30 July – land in Nairobi (if you haven’t already!) - For those arriving into Jomo International Airport on the 30 July, the tour operators are tracking your flights. Once you exit the airport after clearing customs look for someone holding ‘UCCLAN AFRICA EVENT’ – this person will drive you to our hotel in Naivasha. For those already in Kenya who have requested a seat on our transfers at 10am or 9pm, the meet up point at the airport will at the Java cafe where our representative will direct you to the vehicle. Dinner is booked in the hotel between 7pm-10pm.

  • 31 July – 2 August  – three days of meetings, networking, socialising, excursions and CLLS 

  • 3 August – after breakfast, join us for a reflections session at 9am. Then check out of the hotel and head back to Nairobi airport as a group

What’s included: shared accommodation (twin rooms), venue hire, group travel, group excursions and activities, refreshments and most meals will be covered by the programme.

What’s not included: airport transfers (if applicable), flight amendments, some meals, drinks and any extras not part of the core event programme. 

What is the UCCLAN Africa Regional event?

The Masters has received a gift to support alumni activity, including the delivery of three regional meetings for alumni from Latin America, Africa and Asia. These events are designed to bring together alumni from multiple cohorts for learning, networking and to catalyse new and higher impact collaborative initiatives in their region. The format builds on the highly successful global alumni event in Cambridge in 2018 and plans to replicate this model at the regional level. We successfully delivered the pilot event for the Latin American regional group in 2023, the report can be found here. Participation costs for alumni will be subsidised, to ensure maximum inclusion.

This event will be co-created by the CL Team in collaboration with a working group of regional alumni*, it aims:

  • to strengthen connections within the UCCLAN Africa regional group;

  • to create networking opportunities between alumni and other conservation actors;

  • to shine a spotlight on the work of alumni in Africa;

  • to increase collaboration within those working in Africa

This is all with the ultimate goal of enabling greater conservation impact through the UCCLAN network.

  • Regionally focussed and themed sessions
  • Global UCCLAN sessions
  • Links to Cambridge and the Masters sessions
  • Fieldtrips / excursions
  • Networking and social activities
  • Presentations / engagement with high profile external speakers

Expected outcomes:

  • Strengthened regional alumni network
  • Increased engagement from UCCLAN as tangible activity taking place
  • Stronger ties to Cambridge and the course
  • Enhanced conservation impact through alumni activities
